Image Compression

All images are compressed. All compression methods are lossless.

Default Window and Level (Image Brightness and Contrast)

Default window and level are determined automatically using proprietary image processing techniques. These techniques were developed and tested over a ten year period in close collaboration with leading physicians and scientists in the medical imaging community.

Movie Play Speed

All movies are programmed to automatically play at the physiologic rate (eg. at the patient's heart rate). Movies are either animated GIF files (on web pages where multiple series are displayed) or single-frame images interpreted as movies by specialized Javascript computer code (on web pages where individual series are displayed).

Some web browsers play animated GIF movies at an inappropriately lower rate. The cause of this incorrect rate is one or more errors in the computer code written by the web browser manufacturer.

Image Pixel Depth

All images are 8-bit except those viewed using the window/level tool. By default, the window/level tool operates on 8-bit data. If the original images were greater than 8-bit the window/level tool optionally operates on 16-bit data.

Display Settings

Webpages may not be diagnostic quality if viewed on poor quality monitors or systems using poor quality video cards.
